Why payouts stall — and the order to check things in

Most delayed redemptions come down to a handful of common causes, and several of them you can clear yourself.

Key takeaways

  • Incomplete verification is a common cause, and the easiest to pre-empt.
  • Unmet playthrough makes a balance look redeemable when it is not.
  • Name mismatches between account and payout destination are routinely refused.

A redemption that has not arrived is stressful, and the instinct is to message support straight away. Before you do, work through the checks below in order. Several are things only you can fix, and the rest are quicker to raise once you know which one applies.

1. Is your verification complete?

Platforms generally need to confirm who you are before they pay out a prize. If your ID, proof of address or a selfie check is still outstanding, a request can wait until it is done. Look for a verification status in your account settings and finish anything marked pending. Verify on day one explains why doing this early saves time.

2. Has the playthrough been met?

Promotional currency usually has to be played through a set number of times before it can be redeemed. A balance can look large while only part of it is eligible. Many platforms show the redeemable figure separately from the total, and that smaller number is the one that counts. Bonus terms, decoded explains how playthrough works.

3. Do the names match?

The name on your account, on your ID and on the payment account receiving the money normally need to match. A PayPal or bank account in a partner's name is a common reason a request is refused. If you have changed your name recently, update it everywhere before you request a redemption.

4. Is the amount within the limits?

Platforms set minimum and maximum redemption amounts, and sometimes daily or weekly caps. A request below the minimum may not be processed at all, and a large one may be split or held for extra review. The limits are in the redemption section of the official rules.

5. Does your method support payouts?

A payment method that works at checkout is not always offered for redemptions. Check that the method you chose is listed for payouts on that platform, and that your account with the payment service is in good standing. Cashout Methods compares the common options and the cash-out rules for each, and Payment Methods explains how each service works.

6. Is it still in review?

Some requests are reviewed by hand, especially a first redemption or a larger amount. Availability and processing can vary by platform, and no timeline can be promised on a platform's behalf. If a request is still pending after the period the platform states, it is time to contact them.

Set yourself up before your first redemption

Most of the checks above can be done before you ever request a prize:

  • Finish verification as soon as you register.
  • Add the payment account you plan to use, in your own name.
  • Read the redemption section of the official rules: minimums, limits and which methods pay out.
  • Keep a note of any promotion you claim and the playthrough attached to it.

What to send when you contact support

  • Your account username and the email address on the account.
  • The date, amount and method of the redemption, plus any reference number.
  • A screenshot of the request's current status.
  • Which of the checks above you have already done.
